Poison Identification

Hello.
Recently my PCs obtained what they (correctly) believe to be a couple of poison vials. Oddly enough, I can't find any info about how to identify the stuff. When the PC asked what it was, I had him make a check (Craft:Poisonmaking) and he rolled pretty low, so I told he he wasn't sure.
Just wondering what the offical word is. I can't find it in the PHB, DMG or Complete Adventurer(where the "Craft:Poisonmaking" skill appears.).
Thanks!

There's a zero level spell that identifies a poison. It's called, funnily enough, "detect poison".

I'd suggest allowing craft poisonmaking for the spell instead of craft alchemy.

I'd also suggest a DC 25 craft poisonmaking check to correctly ID a poison - it's the same as the spellcraft check to correctly ID a potion.

I'd make the DC the same as the craft check, but none of this is RAW either. I'm not sure there is a RAW answer.

Hmm...

Looks like the closest thing to a RAW answer lies in the spell description of Detect Poison.
They suggest a Wisdom Check DC20 and then a Craft:Alchemy Check DC20.
I allowed a Craft:Poisonmaking with a DC25(Using Spellcraft::Potion as a guide), giving +2 Circumstance since he knew it was an Injury type poison that caused Con damage. Guess I should have lowered the DC a bit and even allowed a 2nd try via Wisdom. Ah well. "Good" adventurers shouldn't be using poison anyway, but that's for a seperate thread...
Thanks!
