Hi guys!
So I'm quite new to the game in general and have a few questions about poisons as I can't seem to find a specific answer on this anywhere (DM is quite new as well). I've noticed some poisons have an "instant" effect like the damage on the basic poison, etc. I also see that some poisons say they last for X amount of minutes/hours but then don't go on to say what affliction the poison gives the victim.
For example I play a rogue and I just picked up the Dagger of Venom in the HotDQ campaign. It has an ability once per day to coat the dagger in black venom for 1min. The venom has 1 use and inflicts 2d10 damage and poisons the target for 1 hour on a failed constitution save. There is no description that goes on to say what happens during that hour, just that the target is poisoned.
Can someone enlighten me if there is some baseline poison effect for the above example?
