This is actually a toughie for me. I want to say LotR out of gut reaction but I think I am going to have to go with Back to the Future, if for no other reason than I can still sit and watch them today back to back a couple weeks apart and none of those others. I am sure people will argue this but it is just a personal thing. To me good movies are ones that are well done, you watch them and you leave going "man that was a great movie" while actual *great* movies are those movies that 10 years down the line they come on tv and you put the remote down and relive your first viewing. LotR just hasn't been that way for me.

Star Wars for me.

Sure, LoTR, looked amazing, but since I saw Star Wars when I was a kid, it formed apart of my identity as I was growing up. It's part of our culture as are many of the characters and phrases. While as strong as the Rings movie trilogy was, it was and will always be a stronger book than a movie it many people's eyes.

Had to go with Indy. Pure, unadulterated fun. None of the varnish comes up with repeat viewings. And Raiders of the Lost Ark is simply a masterpiece.

While I love the Lord of the Rings movies, and don't find them to be nearly as flawed as many on these boards, I haven't had the opportunity for many viewings, so I can't tell if they'll hold up in the long run.

The Star Wars movies... have their flaws. With one or two exceptions, the acting is atrocious. And the tinkering George has done hasn't helped. I generally manage to stay in 8 year old mode while watching anything Star Wars, but I don't have to do that to maintain my enjoyment of Indy, LotR, or Back to the Future, so that works against Star Wars.

Never cared for the Matrix, and I downright despised the 2nd one. Didn't see the third.

Back to the Future is also one of my favorites, but it's not up to the Indy standard.

Star Wars in this poll is the orginal cuts, not special edtions. Thats they way they are ment to be seen, IMO.

You could add the Alien trilogy to that list! The first two are GREAT!

I had to go with Star Wars. I might have gone with the Indy movies if the second one was not so weak compared to the 1st and 3rd movie.

LOTR...humm great movies but I think Star Wars is still the king of the hill. Has more staying power. Gee I can still watch a Star Wars movie at the drop of a hat but a LOTR movie is more of a marathon endevor.

Lord of the Rings. Tempted as I was to put down Star Wars or Indy, I have to give it to the hobbits.

Star Wars shaped who I am, sure. But analyzing as objectively as possible, LotR would have done the same, and more, had I seen it during my formative years. No, it's not flawless--no movie is. But I think, all told, it's a better story and better acted.

It was, as I said, a very close call, though.

Depends on how you define things, I suppose.

LotR, both as book and as movie, ultimately end up as a "single" for me, although treated as a trilogy in both media.

I tip towards LotR, with Star Wars (pre-Special Edition) as a strong #2.

My thoughts exactly. It was close, but LOTR had to win out.
