I played WoW for a couple of hours at E3 and it is definitely similar to CoH in that it is quest driven.

Personally, I've been looking forward to WoW for a long time so would go with that one.

How did this opportunity come up?

Lol...well the "opportunity" wasn't a matter of...here...you can play this OR this. Two different people (within a few days of each other) basically offered to let me play thier accounts. I just want to choose one b/c my gaming-time is limited...until I win the lottery that is.

I have to admit, from what I've read...I'm strongly leaning towards CoH. Having played AC, AC2, EQ, UO, SWG, and SoR...WoW doesn't seem that new and interesting. In fact, very little of it seems new OR interesting. (but I'd like to hear opinions on this)

I really like that CoH doesn't have items, per se. That alone will kill a lot of munchkin junk. Also, the supreme customization of looks and super-powers is so painfully tempting.

I beta tested CoH and play it as well (24th level Dark/Regen Scrapper). It is a rock solid game that is a lot of fun. I recently got into WoW beta and I can tell you, CoH has nothing on WoW.

CoH had more in common with Diablo than it does with say Baldur's Gate. Which there is nothing wrong with, just Diablo, for me, got boring after a while, where are Baldur's Gate only got boring after I ran out of content. I will tell you from my little (14th level) Paladin heart, I don't forsee running out of content in WoW for a LONG time.

Update

Ok...so here's an update--I've started playing both.

First off...I totally don't have the time...but I am anyway.

CoH is a blast! Gameplay is fun. People are great. The updates seem to be keeping the high levels happy. The fact that there are no items kills a lot of munchkin crap. You almost have to group to do missions that fall later in the story-arcs...and I love that.

WoW is fun...but it's very similar to other MMORPGs. I don't think it's fundamentally different or innovative. The graphics pop, but you'd expect that. I'm not saying that it's got a good game (it is) but I haven't seen or heard of any new ideas yet...nb - they haven't re-implemented talents yet so I can't speak to those.

14.95 a month, though you can get discounted rates by buying several months at a time.

And 14.95 a month isn't too bad... especially since my CoH addiction has replaced bar-crawling as my primary stress reliever, my Bar Tabs used to run... well a whole lot more than 14.95 a month anyway.

Thanks! I probably won't get into it anytime soon--busy social life these days--but it does sound like a reasonable price.
