Yes, since there is definitely a market for it. I think they should keep putting out the material.

That said, I'm not interested in Vile material, so I propably wouldn't buy the products.

I say yes. There's no place for it in my game, at least not the one I'm currently running, but I think some of this stuff is important to the genre. Overall, you don't have to buy it.

I'd keep it out of 'all-ages' publications like Dragon and Dungeon if possible, or at the very least have it clearly denoted and warned against.

But my personal thought on the matter is this: What happens when you hit a guy with a sword? I'm not going to describe it because it's incredibly vile: yet this is the basic level of play in D&D.

Something else (posting it in all the vile threads) :)

And TNN is changing its name to Spike and is targetting the male pop. "More vile" is just that an ad, shock and awe (trade mark Sony). It is to try and get more readers, it is a buzz word, got you to look kind of thing.

Think about this...

Does 'more vile' improve the quality of the product? :)

I voted yes, but in no way im saying the vile rules are cool

The rules per se are not the problem, in my opinion. the problem is it going to general RPG magazines and books.

vile rules should be an alternative niche covered by a alternative studio, like a WW's Black Dog.

Looks like the "nots" are getting their butts whipped.

That's gotta chafe.

Just an instance of the wording of the question. I don't have a problem with vile material being produced, and I am fairly conservative on the issue. What does that say about the numbers?

"Am I the ONLY person insulted by this image?"

I would guess so. What is there to be insulted about? It is beautiful and just a little bit scary, the way the creature ought to be. I thought it was a very classy well done illustration, maybe one of the best in the book. It is clearly tied very closely to the greek statuary roots that inspired the monster, and is properly equiped and attired as a divinity respectfully ought to be. Whoever painted it did a proper ammount of research and studying statues before undertaking the work. The only thing I have against it is that real greek statues were not only dressed but painted in a lifelike fashion, but as a painting itself I understand why it was necessary to leave the arms, torso, face, and feet with an overemphasised stone texture just so everyone will 'get it'. You might also get a little miffed that the statue is not designed to be a load bearing member of a structure, but since this creature is meant to be mobile I don't see how that can bother you much.

What is "Vile" to whom

Hmmm...
More "Vile" content...
//Begin Sarcasm
Whee.
Look at me.
OOoooh, forcefeeding the PC's Lima Beans...
Vile...
//End Sarcasm

Honestly, I looked through BoVD and laughed at it. "Wizards Presents: Politically Correct Kinda Startling Vaguely Shadowy Stuff that Might Frighten a Child."
Then went home, where my kids were watching the news, complete with bloody photo's of someone who got splashed.

Unrestrained depiction of painful, real life death.
That's Vile.
Ooooh, dark energy and some sorta-kinda sacrifices.
No vile.
Game Mechanics for Pedophilia...
Over the top, I'll hurt you if I catch you, that's right, you the writer, Vile.
A drawing of a statue of a NAKED woman (not a woman whose flesh turned to stone while her possessions remained intact)...
Not vile. Art.
People screaming as thier skin blisters up, the blisters pop, and thier skin begins melting off...
Vile
Kicking a beggar in the mouth...
Evil Lite.
Dead children having to be autopsied to find which abuse killed them...
Vile.
People consorting with demons to gain power...
Interesting, stupid (on thier part), but hardly Vile.

Honestly, I think Vile matters on the following topics:
Presentation: Does the writer present it in a clean, straight forward presentation, or does he sound like he wrote it in the closet with the nieghbor girl's underwear over his head.
Art: Was the art depicting something in the writing that may have been difficult to visualize, or was it just thrown in there to make someone go "ewww" or for the publisher to say: "We're VILE only we'd publish this pic an insane hobo drew for us!"
Mechanics: Are the mechanics crisp and clean, or will they make me want to claw out my eyes in agony? If it's going to be another FATAL, keep it. If it's going to be like "Requiem for a God", well, let me take a look.
Compatibility: How well will this intrigrate into a campaign? (Despite the current: "Everything should be usable by everyone" crap going around, me and my players know that some things are DM only) Will it buff up the bad guys? Is the penalties realistic and a horrible price to pay, or does the guy just grow a 3rd eye on his back?
Progression: Can the product be used in little parts, or do I have to go full bore and use all of it? Can I add your "Soul Render" PrC, or do I have to use everything in it?
Maturity: Is it written in a mature, clinical manner, or read as if it was the fantasies of a teenage Jeffery Dahmer?
Impact: If this book is seen by my minister, will he burst into flames? Will the publisher be causing damage to the reputation of the game to make a buck? It wasn't that long ago gamers were villified on national TV and by police.

Well, that's my windbag take on it. :)
Personally, I voted yes.
