Ok, I see people trashing both the DnD cartoon, and the DnD movie. What one do people think is worse depection of "true DnD"? You are voting for what one is the worst.

Edit: can someone fix my poll title, I screwed it up.

The worst depiction, or the worst entertainment?

The cartoon was, in most ways, more enjoyable than the movie, though the movie is perhaps better if you want to have MST3K-type fun.

The cartoon was also (imho) a less accurate depiction of the game.

I vastly preferred the cartoon. For one thing, it's quotable. "Oh my, bullywugs!" can be used in almost any context (to confuse people, that is). For another thing, the heroes were remotely likable and actually operated as a party. For another thing, who's cooler? Tiamat, or a guy with blue lipstick?

That's what I thought.

Demiurge out.

You know, despite the whole "kids from Earth seeking a way home" thing, which isn't accurate to the game, and depsite the fact that nobody's weapons actually killed anything...

I think the cartoon was more accurate to the game. The movie, in addition to not being very good, took a lot of liberties with the source material. Not to say the cartoon didn't, but it just felt more D&D to me.

Not that I think either is a sterling representation of our hobby, mind you. :)

I dunno--at least the cartoon captured most of the important things that make D&D different from most high-fantasy fiction: true ensemble cast (rather than main character and sidekicks); dragons as intelligent, spell-casting people (rather than beasts); spellcasters and non- roughly equally important and equally powerful. Those are the biggest ones, off the top of my head. If the cartoon had had D&D-style magical polytheistic priests, and a multi-species party of equals, it'd have hit pretty much all the significant D&Disms. The movie didn't manage a single one.

I voted for the movie. That movie was such a load of garbage, that I hope the guy who wrote it is watching it with his eyelids sliced off for the next ten years continuosly.

I thought the cartoon was corny, but no where near as lousy as that movie. I agree the cartoon was quite quoteable, and was closer to cannon (at the time), even though they made the halfling only able to show half of himself at one time........ uuugghhh.

The D&D cartoon had its moments when it was enjoyable and fun, particularly back when you were a kid. Like that one episode where they barbequed Uni.
(Plus the thief chick was hot.)

The D&D movie was awkward, humilating and painful. Like taking your sister to the prom.
