Polyhedron's Dark*Matter d20

The Midnight magic system is almost perfect. You can use all the same D&D spells, under a "spell points" system instead of Vancian. Plus, they have ritual magic for reducing the points needed, at the cost of taking much more time.

I'd say, adapt that spell point system to Modern, while keeping the UA ritual system, and you'd be in good shape.

2. When is D20 Future due out? They have introduced minigames based on Modern before Modern was released. Mecha Crusade comes to mind.
Might they try the same thing with D20 Future?

I don't think this will require Future. I'm pretty sure the ad in the new Dungeon/Poly just said "for d20 Modern". According to the product listing over at Wizard's, d20 Future is actually going to be an supplement for Modern anyway, not a full game on it's own. It's supposed to be coming out in August.

Thanks, Dave.

I haven't seen the latest Dungeon yet, as I let my subscription lapse, and so I hadn't seen the preview.

I'm planning on picking up the issue with D*M in it, though.

As for D20 Future, I'm definately curious to see what it gives us that Iron Lords of Jupiter and Star Wars D20 don't. But I guess that's another thread... :)

Ever since Modern came out, I've been trying to think of a way to adapt the FX book for the Alternity system to Modern. I think you could use it for a Skills and Feats based system. I just haven't been able to come up with a solid conversion.

I have been toying with mixing magic systems. Quick, dirty and flashy spellcasting used the rules from d20 CoC, where spells do attribute damage when casting. The more subtle spells use incantation rules from Urban Arcana.

Two thoughts: (1) Call of Cthulhu d20 uses a very interesting magic system, definitely non-Vancian. They also use a unique psionics system in which psionic abilities essentially function as feats; no levels, no power points, etc. (2) Why not make all magic in d20 Modern function as Incantations (a la Urban Arcana)?

err, next month? On that website it says January 2003...did they get the year wrong? They must've been writing checks recently 'cause that's where I mostly mess up.
