Polymorph Any and Undead . . .

What are undead? Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral? We've been debating this question for the purposes of the duration of Polymorph Any Object (which works on Undead because it can target objects).

What do you think??

If they had to be one of those three, it would be mineral. Calcium is a mineral by definition, and makes up the majority of the bones. Not likely to be any vegetable matter, and animals are by definition alive.

I'd go with animal, inasmuch as "Fire Elemental" would also be animal.

Personally I think the sensible approach is to allow "outsider" and "undead" to count alongside the classic animal, vegetable, mineral.

The calcium argument doesn't work with incorporeal undead, for instance. Fire elementals I'd consider to not really be any of the classic three options although I can see good arguments for it being considered animal.
