Polymorphing a familiar?

Hm. What's everybody's take on this?

Personally, I don't think it would be an in-character thing to do, since polymorphing often leads to the subject being slightly uncomfortable and confused if I remember correctly.

So, what do you think? Acceptable or no?

In 3E, all that happens is that you change physical forms. You don't lose your mind or suffer any mental ill-effects. There are a bunch of caveats on what exactly happens when you change forms, but nothing harmful, except for incidental effects -- eg someone polymorphed into a fish is usually in trouble.

There would be nothing wrong with polymorphing a familiar.

Note, that Polymorph Self wouldn't bother the Caster. Thus, if the Caster shared the spell with his familiar, it would be quite legal.

Although, the Familiar may be very grumpy about it.

Actually I believe the familiar would lose several of its powers, since it doesn't retain (Su) powers I think? (This is a bit off hand, I don't have my books right now)
