Possibly two Villains in Spider-Man 3

I'm not sure if there is any truth to it, but I could have sworn that I heard something about the directors killing off Spider-Man in the second sequel so there wouldn't be any more sequels.

IIRC there was some talk about the third movie being the last, and that they want to end the story.

That might - but doesn't have to - involve the death of Spider-Man.

Well -

Killing of Spider-Man in these movies would guarantee no such thing. Whether or not there are sequels depends upon the will and financing of the people who hold the license. The plotline is irrelevant, especially with a comics property. If they want a sequel, there will be a sequel, no matter the state of the character in the most recent film.

Killing Spidey would cheese off so many fans it wouldn't be funny. Good way to shoot themselves in the foot.

Raimi seems to be a bit of a classicist, Spidey-wise. I don't think killing him would sit well with that at all.

I believe Kirsten Dunst made a comment in an interview that she thought that would be a good idea. Penny Arcade had a comment on that.

Dude, while I think it is cute, that particular comic is not particularly safe for work.

It's Spider-Man's unescapeable fate to become chubby and a) be hunted down by the
police or/and b) retire to the sub-urbs.

All future looks of Spidey that I've seen always seem to have him chubby.

IIRC Sony and Marvel argeed to a 7 movie deal in which Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Sam Raimi agreed to a 3 movie deal. Sam later agreed to do a 4th one. I get 98% of my Spider-Man information for superherohype.com. That news is pretty old so I might not have everything correct.

The Sony and Marvel deals sounds familiar to me as well. I have also read somewhere that Kristen is only interested in 3 movies.

Well, while I am not a Spidey fan per-se, I am a comic book geek, so I know more than a little about Spidey comics, and have read them on occasion.

Venom is not one of my favorite Spidey villains. He doesn't even make the list. There's nothing interesting about him. He's merely some guy in a suit that looks like Spidey's old black suit. *shrug*

I think both of the villains in the movies have been great so far. Norman Osborn's crazy split-personality mirror scene was fantastic. The actor did a fantastic job of creating two faces that were so different they felt like separate entities. While the Power Rangers mask was silly, I didn't mind it too much. It wasn't the mask that made the character, it was the actor.

DocOc was just as good. I liked the fact that he wasn't really a villain per se. He was sympathetic and interesting, and his tentacles' AI acting as a sort of "serpent in the garden of eden" was a neat touch. DocOc also had his bit of silliness. If the only thing between me and being taken over by an AI were a "control chip"...you can bet I'd have ten of those babies welded into the harness, and they'd be a lot more solid than a little plastic thingamajig at the base of my skull. :p But the rest of the character...and movie...was good enough for me to overlook that little bit of silliness, just like the Goblin's Mask.

I'm a bit worried that 2 villains could spoil the next Spidey movie, but the first two have been so good (the best comic book movies every made, IMO,) that I have to give Sam the benefit of the doubt. He's earned it.

There was a *very* official looking spiderman 3 poster with Venom, that was hosted on imageshack for a short while before it was farked. If I can get ahold of it, i'll post it here.

With two villains, and the murmur of Venom being one (Which obviously he's not, but just if), I'd like to think they'd stick Venom's little brat, Carnage in as a chirpy side to the deal. That way you have your brooding "Got to save the innocents!" tongue lasher who just can't help but aid Spidey even though he hates him - and - your regular idiotic kill you as soon as look at you psychotic loon.

(I joke.)

But seriously.

I can't stand the way these new movies are re-hashing old stories. I am sick of "traditional heroes and villains" making their way back out of the "boring hamper" time and time again. So what if it's a legacy?! Green Goblin sucks backside in my opinion! Or at least seeing him being brought out time and again. Superman vs. Lex Luther..... AGAIN?! How about some new blood? How about exciting us with some creativity here folks? There's a gazillion comic books and story-lines to reference from and they can't think of anything more original than the Green Goblin and Doc Oc? Sheesh. There's a reason I fell asleep through the first Spiderman film and saw the second one only once - "they were tired ideas". I'm hoping that Sandman and his chum (Whoever that might be - though I hope to hell it's not "the return of the Green Goblin - again".) provide a little fizzle to the comic-book-hero movie genre, that, in my opinion is sorely needed. (And no, Blade and Punisher are hardly classed as heroes. They weren't even portrayed correctly.)

I'm also thinking about starting a petition for everyone to boycott the next Superman movie on the grounds that there "had" to be a Superman villain out there more interesting than the "O so terrible" Lex Luther. Who's with me?

[Post Script: Rant over, I'm going to bed.]
