Post your monster CR complaints here

I think that the Tarrasque is underrated too, probably they just wanted to put it inside MM1, and so they did, with max level 20... CR 20...

Hey Sherlock, how come the dragons are up to, what, 26 then? ;)

A Tarrasque is problematic since it can't fly. In right circumstances it can't hurt a high-level group that knows what it's doing. And it's stupid as hell. Maybe it should be pumped up a few steps though..

CR always depends on the situation

I matched my party (3x12, 3x13) up against a Orcwort plant (MM2 CR 20). After shredding the monk (119 points in a full attack action) who wandered too close the rest of the party sat back and engaged the plant from range. It looks like it will take a while to finish the plant off, but with ranged spells the plant should not present an amazing challenge. If the plant had played possum until the party had closed to range, it would have been a completely different fight.

Polar Bear! Just kidding :) Maybe because of bad experience!

Damn I completely agree with this, last week we (party of 4, level 2 and 3) were once again slaughtered by just one of these nightmares! And a few months ago one of them slaughtered our 3 man level 5 party!

I....CANT.....STAND......POLARBEARS....AAAAAAaaarrggh!!!

Mr Watson...
Anyway, it is almost a killing machine with resistancecs, immunities, int higher than 3, what takes it away from many spells, and to complete, it is really, really huge, never failing on a save, now imagine it JUMPING to reach you... man, i would at least put it toward 22 or 23...

on dragons, they were made to gain more respect than they had prevousy, but I believe taz (it looks a lot on 2nd E MM) was made to be the ultimate line between common and epic... just some thoughts...

hey shard, nice of you to show by!! anyway, where dos your come from, huh?

I think Big T is rated just fine at CR 20. Flying and teleporting are easily available to characters at this level, as are +5 arrows (via GMW) and wish spells. It's an easy kill at a distance.

Well, any DM that would just let his players fly away and pepper the tarrasque with arrows until it died isn't really doing his job.

The tarrasque has been known to devour entire villages; a good use of it would be to have it attacking a town or village, and the players have to stop it somehow. Sure, they can fly away and shoot it with arrows, and they'll eventually bring it down, but how many innocent people will it kill in that amount of time?
