Power Analysis: Two Handed Power Strike

I'm interested to find out what people think of the Two Handed Power Strike feat (Quint Fighter)

Two Handed Power Strike
Req: Str 15, Power Attack, Cleave
Benefit: You may add twice your strength bonus to damage when using a two-handed close combat weapon with both hands. This feat may not be used in conjunction with Improved Initiative, Lightning Initiative, Dodge or Mobility.

How balanced do you feel this feat is. Had any experiences with it good or bad?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I dont get it, how do you not use it in conjunction with improve initiative? The only time that matters is when you first roll for initiative, no combat then, no way to apply this feat.. does your initiative change when you start useing it? Does it change again when you stop? (obviously not having this feat would fix the problem, but as it was specifically called out then it has to be known how this would work in the game)

gah.. that seems just horribly crazy ;)

is close combat weapon a melee weapon?

I dont have any experience with it so I wont comment about its power level.. but the rest of it would make me cringe pretty badly.. it just doesnt seem to know what it wants to do or how to go about it ... ouch

I would guess that taking this feat precludes taking Improved Initiative, and vice versa.

Kind of an anti-prerequisite.

First of all, there's an important part of the feat description missing which is:

May only be used with the full-attack action.

I think this makes sense in which you can't be moving around when you want to hit someone harder than usual, you have to focus your strength and ability in swinging your sword. So in that case, you can't charge and use this feat, which leads me to the point of not being able to use Improved Initiative, because then you would have a good chance of winning the initiative, charging your foe, and using this feat. Hence I find balanced in that sense, and I wouldn't have any problem with letting this feat in my campaign, though for the sake of my monsters, I would have to sunder the fighter's greatsword in every encounter.

Well that's all I have to say.

P.S.: I just remembered that there is nothing saying that you can't use the dodge feat with this feat.

By the time you get the option to make a full attack you have already used improved initiative. I dont believe you can turn it off by choice, much like I wouldnt think someone could turn off toughness by choice.

So, before you get the option to use it then it is already too late. Unless of course useing this feat somehow undoes your +4 for initiative.. I guess that means you could Begin your full attack, your initiative then changes to whatever it was -4, then what? do you continue right now? are you forced to wait? do you get two full rounds this round?

It just doesnt make any sense as written.

I guess the question is, "How do you *not* use Improved Initiative with this feat?"

If it takes a Full Attack action, how could you possibly use Mobility (which, by definition, requires that you be moving)?

Plus, what is a "close combat" weapon? Its amazing how many bad rules you can put into two sentances.

Unless ... heh heh heh ... *points at Hypersmurf* ... heh heh heh ...

All that extra text is just to make sure you don't use the feat when mounted with a lance? ;)

At virtually any level this feat can be better than weapon specialisation for a strength fighter.

Barbarians make it even worse.

So, bad feat.
