Power attack and bite

A creature with a single natural weapon attack often, e.g. with a bite, gets 1.5x Str bonus to damage, just as someone attacking with a weapon in two hands gets 1.5x Str bonus. My question is, if such a creature has the Power Attack feat, is the bonus damage 1 for 1 with the penalty to hit taken or is it 2 for 1? On the one hand, a natural weapon is considered light (at least for certain purposes), but on the other hand the normal Str bonus to damage is in line with that for 2-handed wielding, which might suggest a Power Attack bite (for example) should do 2x penalty to hit in bonus damage. What do people think?

Thanks,

Natural weapons only get 1x power attack. That rule is not tied into the strength bonus to damage, which is an overall good thing for monsters, since they also get the bonus on natural attacks that only get 1/2 the strength bonus, which might otherwise be considered equivalent to light, offhand weapons.

Also, since natural weapons are considered light, it is only the specific exception listed in the feat which allows power attack to work at all.

Hi!

I'd this question answered in a thread about a power attacking wererat.

NO!

Natural weapons are rated only on a 1 on 1 basis regarding PA!

Strength bonus x 1,5 only if the attack is the only natural weapon the creature can use to damage opponents.

Kind regards
