Power Attack with two handed weapons

Anyone using a multiplier of 1.5 instead of 2? It makes perfect sense in light of the two weapon fighting rules and the argument that it´s easier to multiply with two isn´t a good one imo.

Who´s got some field experience?

The argument isnt that it is easier to multiply.

Its that a two weapon weilder can power attack on both of their weapons and do essentially x2 and they also have the chance to roll to hit twice making it better chance of hitting at least for some damage. That is why the 2 handed weilder has x2.

Not quite. If a person is wielding a One-handed weapon and a Light weapon (in other words, the only viable way to TWF), you gain no benefit from using Power Attack with a light weapon. So that doesn't exactly work. My guess is (and I think I remember reading it when 3.5 came out, in fact) that it was easier to multiply.

My house rule is that power attack uses a multiplier equal to the strength multiple for that attack. So single handed, it is normal. Double handed, it is x1-1/2. Off hand it is x1/2. Makes sense to me and works great.

Hyp actually had word that ease of multiplication *was* at least one reason why they went for 0/1/2 instead of .5/1/1.5 like the str bonus.

But Sadrik has a point. If the TWF is using two medium weapons, he does get x2 damage. (of course, he also gets a bigger penalty to hit.....)

Unless he takes Oversized Two Weapon Fighting ;) Then he only takes the penalties of fighting with one medium weapon and one light weapon, while still getting the power attack bonus based off the Medium weapon size.

Well, then if you wanted to keep the cases parallel, you could have a feat to move two-handed power attack from X1.5 to X2.

I've pretty much house ruled Power Attack back to the 3.0 rules in my games. I've never seen any real "weakness" in the two-handed weapons yet, and I like that there are some scenarios where Two Weapon Fighting is superior to other fighting styles without relying on a bevy of magical adjectives (flaming swords of bursting cold frost lightning energy blast?)
