Power Rangers

You have Connor playing Soccer, in the 3rd episode he went to try out of the local professional team and had to turn down being accepted due to his responsiblities as a ranger.

Makes me wonder why he even tried out. I guess to prove to himself that he was good enough to play pro?

the original green ranger story arc is one of the best ever. and the white ranger arc was awesome too.

i saw the new one this weekend, but Tommy cut his hair! i couldnt deal, so i stopped watching =)

I can deal with Tommy's short hair. What I can't deal is his backstory prior to the new show. I mean, a paleontologist who created those monsters? Ross Gellar is a paleontologist, Tommy isn't. Plus, there are so many Jurassic Park elements, I'm half-expecting Jeff Goldblum's character to pop up, just to creep out the younguns.

Oh, and considering that he's older (but may regard as a hot young teachers to schoolgirls), he should drop the "Tommy" and go with "Tom." Right, Tally? ;)

Wait... one of the character's name is Connor? And its spelled like that, the "correct" way? I'm both flattered and disturbed...

Johnny Young Bosch does lots of anime voice over work.

As for why Connor tried out? He did so because it was his dream. He always wanted to play on a pro team. However during tryouts the city was attacked and he had to leave.

Connor started to have doubts about being a ranger because it was interfering with his personal goals in life.
Tommy called the coach, being Connors teacher, and explained it was his fault Connor had to leave. Connor made the team.

However it wasnt untill Connor saved a little girl from the bad guys that he realized why he needs to be a ranger and that some things are more important then soccer and that for the time being he had to put that aspect of hs life on hold.

As for Tommy being Dr. Tommy Oliver Paleontologist.

There has been roughly 6 and a half years since he gave up his Zeo Powers to TJ and moved on with his life. The Average amount of time (in the US needed to gain a PHD is 8 years. Particular students can achieve this in 4 or 5.

This weeks episode is going to be the 500th of Power Rangers....as such its going to be a "clip" show type episode. In the last episode Tommy got captured at the very end (exactly like he did in Green With Evil Part 1, its Sloans homage to the past, its good..)

In this episode a video message tells the new rangers about tommys past as a ranger and how he came to be a dr.

also lets remember, this IS power rangers, there is a certain level of disbelief one has to allow. In a world where you have Aliens and Demons, Ninja Sorcerers, Space Pirates, Floating Heads and Dino Mutants you'd think someone can be a DR in less then 5 years, eh?

I have a character in my stories based really really tangentally on the yellow ranger from Power Rangers. See, a friend of mine, Calily Bien, way back in 8th grade almost played in my D&D game, and she even made a character, naming her Trini after the yellow ranger. Calily never played, but I took the character as an NPC, and over eight years have changed her a huge amount, such that pretty much only her name is the same (and even that got a fantasy-ish apostrophe put in the middle). That, and her personality is vaguely reminiscent of Calily's.

So, Tri'ni is a key character in some of my stories, and I think she's one of the most enjoyable to read characters I have.

When I read here that the actress who played Trini on the Power Rangers died a few years ago in a car crash, I got this odd feeling of confusion. I felt a brief need to mourn for her, because of this strange connection. I never even watched the show. I have no idea who this woman was.

an odd bit of trivia, The girl we DO know as Trini is not the original Trini.

There was a diffrent actress chosen for her in the Pilot Episode of Day of the Dumpster.

In fact, Trini wasnt japanese at all, she looked more half white/ half latino, and was tomboyish.

Also, Bulk and Skull were not Bulk and Skull! Instead of the idiot duo was a gang of thugs of which I only remember Bulkmeyer being a part of. And he wasnt even the leader.

Is it pathetic that I know that much MMPR trivia?

Well here is more for you!
Power Rangers is based on Japanese Sentai!
Which was inspired by various diffrent early anime's of Big robots, one of which was Voltron. There were more such as Go Go Bot and many others which contributed to the idea of a big robot hero.

Sentai means Task Force :-p

although here in the states PR is 12 years old, in Japan Sentai has been around over 20. They have had countless movies and crossover stories between the various taskforces.

The Majority of Sentai start with 5 heroes and then add a 6th later on. Only recently have they started the teams with 3, adding 2 and 1 even later (at least one of which always starts as a villan). I belive originally the taskforces had 4. I could be wrong there.

I'll shut up now. >_<

sentai shows are a huge part of japanese culture. the numbers and colors are very significant, and descend from Noh theatre dramas. I had to write a paper on sentai for my japanese pop culture class a few years back =) It's almost always an odd number of people, and the leader is always red.

yep!
though, here in america they change that up a bit.
For example. In time force, Pink was more the leader then Red.
Now in Dino Thunder, once Tommy becomes the black ranger he'll be leading them ont he battle field as well.

And it goes further back to. With him leading when he was White.

And it almost always STARTS odd, it usually ends up even with a 6th ranger.
