Power Rangers

For me, the magic died at the end of Power Rangers in Space (well, to be completely technical, after two episodes of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy).

Power Rangers in Space ended with Zordon's tube being shattered, either killing him or severing his last link to this dimension. The "good" energy released undid the effects of the Coalition of Evil (or whatever it was called) having conquered most of the universe. Lord Zedd (my favorite villain!) and Rita became human, as did Divatox. Ecliptor was destroyed. Darconda and Dark Specter were already dead, and the rest of the vilains weren't covered. The Power Rangers' identities were publically revealed, and that was that. It was really a great ending.

After that, the first two episodes of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy had none of the old cast, save for Bulk, Skull, and Prof. Phenomenous. They were all supposed to go on the giant ship some people were leaving on (why wasn't explained), but they forgot Skull. That lasted about two episodes and then we didn't see them anymore. That was it for me.

And that all happened because Doug Sloan was gone.
They got rid of him around Zeo/Turbo, his legacy lasted one more good season and that was it.

It was SUPPOSED to be the end of Power Rangers, period. But Fox decided to carry on and use more sentai.

Lost Galaxy wasnt my favorite season, in fact i felt it was a few steps back in terms of quality and graphics. It got better later on.

Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, and Turbo are the 3 worst seasons.

As for Tommy being Dr. Tommy Oliver Paleontologist.

There has been roughly 6 and a half years since he gave up his Zeo Powers to TJ and moved on with his life. The Average amount of time (in the US needed to gain a PHD is 8 years. Particular students can achieve this in 4 or 5.
I'm not questioning the time lapse. I'm just questioning his career choice. I mean the last few times I saw him, he left Power Rangers Turbo Team to become a full-fledged professional driver. And on that "Forever Red" episode, it appears he is doing some covert work, like an agent or a spy. That I can visualize in Tommy. But a paleontologist? It would have been better if he became a medical doctor treating women patients, or just an average high school teacher (sans the PhD degree).

This weeks episode is going to be the 500th of Power Rangers....as such its going to be a "clip" show type episode. In the last episode Tommy got captured at the very end (exactly like he did in Green With Evil Part 1, its Sloans homage to the past, its good..)

In this episode a video message tells the new rangers about tommys past as a ranger and how he came to be a dr.
This oughta be good. Maybe he had a horrific accident on the racetrack and his pink ranger girlfriend/wife divorced him.

also lets remember, this IS power rangers, there is a certain level of disbelief one has to allow. In a world where you have Aliens and Demons, Ninja Sorcerers, Space Pirates, Floating Heads and Dino Mutants you'd think someone can be a DR in less then 5 years, eh?
Again, I'm not questioning the time lapse. I'm questioning the writer's doing his backstory.

The Majority of Sentai start with 5 heroes and then add a 6th later on. Only recently have they started the teams with 3, adding 2 and 1 even later (at least one of which always starts as a villan). I belive originally the taskforces had 4. I could be wrong there.
IIRC, they prefer to avoid having a 4-member sentai, or possibly anything to do with "4." I believe it has to do with the Japanese character for "4" also means "death." Sorta like how we Westerners have an aversion toward the number "13."

So is the series they're filming here actually showing anywhere yet?

A bunch of the guys I used to work with are doing stunts on it...

Not in Ranger costumes, though - those guys are all specially imported from Japan. The kiwis are always the bad guys, as I understand it...

When I read here that the actress who played Trini on the Power Rangers died a few years ago in a car crash, I got this odd feeling of confusion. I felt a brief need to mourn for her, because of this strange connection. I never even watched the show. I have no idea who this woman was.

I know just what you mean. I had the same sort of reaction when I heard the news. I think it was a combination of her young age, the fact that she probably did have a career after PR ahead of her (she had been in the Leslie Neilson film, Spy Hard, and Crow 2: City Of Angles), and that I stumbled across the news of her death by accident (that it was never really reported anywhere makes it kind of surreal).

What's especially weird is that I read somewhere that her family came over as "boat people" refugees from Vietnam. While on this boat, they were running out of food and some of the passengers wanted to drown the children to conserve it (truely fine examples of humanity...Let's kill the children so I can live! ). Thuy's mother fought off these people and saved her daughter's life. It's bizarre that, after all this struggle, she dies in a senseless auto accident (and, naturally enough, the woman who hit her car walked away without a scratch).

It's funny, but the last actor I mourned that I didn't know anything about was Brandon Lee. However, with that, I was following the making of The Crow.

All I know is that they died young, and that is always sad, whether you know them or not. Thuy Tran, who came from Vietnam as a boat refugee while escaping the communism, became a hit among children when PR first appeared (I remembered the mania that goes along with it). And just when she's about to break out in the big screen after two movies under her belt, she's gone.

Brandon Lee, son of the famous Bruce Lee (who also died young when Brandon and daughter Shannon were kids), was met with an unfortunate accident with what was supposedly a gun loaded with blanks on the set of the Crow. I believe Dateline NBC covered his death and the cause of it, mixed in with both science and Chinese superstition, and some still believe there is a conspiracy involved.

Are you referring to Power Rangers: Ninja Storm? Shown and finished on ABC (Saturday Morning). We're now on Power Rangers: Dino Thunder.

Uh... yeah, looks like it. IMDB says Mark Harris coordinated on it, so I presume that's the one.

I'd heard rumours they had several years of shooting here still to go...

I recognise a couple of names in the IMDB credits for Dino Thunder - Katrina Devine is a New Zealand actress, and Glen Levy is a New Zealand stuntie. But I don't know if that's being filmed here or not.

Saw the first two episodes of "Power Rangers Dino Thunder"....and I must say, .....

....I actually liked it. I never really got into Power Rangers after the first movie (which I love and I think is awesome - - 2nd movie blew chunks).

But, my friend's son was watching the new show and I happen to be over hanging out and all that. I walked by and suddenly started watching.

Okay, I'm not saying I'm going to be watching this show regularly or anything but one thing is for sure.

Emma Lahana as Kira is pretty hot. :)
