Powergamers Unite! Elf Cleric Archer

I would have thought War and Elf as domains would have been a better choice, esp as Elf gives True Strike and Cats Grace. War gives the Weapon Focus for free.

War isn't on Labelas Enoreth's list. But time's not bad, not bad at all (if you're playing 3.5, you should ask your DM what you will get instead of Mass Haste, as this spell no longer exists.)

If you want unlimited normal arrows, go for Devlin's Ring (Book of Eldritch Might 3) for 2000gp. Go for mithril as armor definitely.

Hm... haven't noticed this one. If my DM allows, I will pick one up (we're back from the Abyss and in Waterdeep for an extended shopping spree anyway). So I can forget about the tons of normal arrows and can fill my quivers of solonor with special material arrows.

how would one go about creating a similar character without access to the War (bow) or Elf domains? I'm looking to make a cleric/archer using ONLY THE PLAYERS HANDBOOK.

They take a hit in 3.5, but they're still really good (read: powerful) characters.

Also, how would a 3.5 cleric/archer work as a Cleric 7/Wizard3/Mystic Theurge 10.

Would the added abilities help, even with taking a 3 level hit in Cleric spells? What if I were to work a few levels of Arcane Archer in?

I need powergamer advice!

Without those domains, you have to get the two feats the usual way. Maybe throw in a couple of fighter levels.

Making a cleric archer with mystic theurge doesn't sound to good, as you lose BAB and HP. Only later you would really be able to get them back (with tenser's transformation and/or divine power), and this build would have problems in armor.

(IMC, the mystic theurge has higher prereqs, btw: you need 3rd-level spells of both kinds, not only 2nd-level spells)

Archers are no longer king. The enancement bonuses from arrows and bows no longer stack, which was the one thing that made archers rock so much. So... *shrug* it's not very power gamey anymore.

Problem with Mystic Theurge is that you get even crappier BAB. I don't know how good your archer will be with that build... I guess with Divine Power it's all evened out... but still, there are only so many times you can cast that.

I don't think going the archer route is really any better than fighting in HTH these days.

I have a Fighter 4/Rogue 3/OotBI 2 currently, and he does exactly the same damage as the fighter 9 - 1d8+7. *shrug*

it may be true that going archer isn't anymore devastating when compared to melee (this is a good change), but an archer can still get a lot of shots off before an enemy gets close, taking less damage (hence, living longer).

thanks for your input on the MT/ cleric archer combo. I dont think I'm going to go for it: I'm using the standard array for stats, and trying to go cleric/archer/wizard/mystic theurge hurts too much.

BTW, question for the minmaxxers: how would u arrange stats for a cleric archer using the standard array?

Standard array:

Str 13, Dex 14 [+2], Con 12 [-2], Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 8

Switch int and cha if you don't need skill points and don't mind playing a character who's a little slow. (I tend to play my characters creatively and would have a lot of trouble justifying that if I had below average int). You could also afford to go dex 8 [+2], Con 14 [-2], Cha 12 if you planned to spend a feat on Zen Archery. (Unfortunatly, if you go that route as an elven archer cleric without the elf domain or a human archer cleric without the war domain, you'll be 9th level before you're a competent archer).

Go with Zen Archery from S&F, if you can. Then you can avoid boosting your DEX and instead boost your WIS (since Zen Archery allows you to use your Wisdom bonus in Archery).

Several of the 3.5 changes seem aimed at this character concept. Bow-arrow stacking and reduction in buffs, among others. I think the sneak attack shuriken machine gun will be more effective under the revision.

i am looking at dumping the craft arms and armor feat. going to add in extend spell instead. and for certain i will have precise shot and rapid shot.

goods:

+2 magical mighty composite longbow 8,300gp
gloves of dexterity +2 4,000gp

efficient quiver 1,800gp
periapt of wisdom +2 4,000gp
+2 breastplate 4,350gp
50 +1 Arrows 2,350gp
