Powers for specific weapons....

I was wondering if the rogue powers that state light blade or crossbow required are that way due to the weapon profs a rogue has cause if he can use a short bow wouldn't that apply too??? why does it have to be a crossbow anyone find this restricting for no reason?? Is there a justifiable reason for that restriction??

Style and Balance.

So, ranger powers often require two weapons making them less useful for great weapon fighters, and rogues use less optimal but more 'roguey' weapons even though bows are the mechanical "win".

Crossbows do less damage than bows of the same size. A shortbow is only a little better than a regular crossbow for a medium character (free reload), but a halfling rogue sneak attacking with a short bow would do more damage than with a hand crossbow (and would also get the benefit of the free reload).

So those are actually meant to prevent you from using other weapons that you may be prof with due to your race. I get the halfling thing and the reload thing but I'm not dealing with that and as for the reload it's not that important just a home game and I thought it was kinda annoying for a PC to have both a crossbow and a bow due to the powers they would like to use. I'll just let her use it, it's less confusing lol but thx for you help.

It's a minor buff to rogues to allow it, but it won't break anything. It will also result in certain flavor changes.

I kinda like that there's a real purpose for using daggers and hand crossbows, which are stereotypical rogue weapons thematically but weren't good mechanical choices in previous editions.

Rogues with longbows? Meh.
