I question the wisdom of going the route of creating a whole new rulebook that only modestly improves the existing game, rather than just sticking with 3.5e. That way you're not potentially fracturing an already small market (3rd edition holdouts).

And one wonders how long will the new book be supported - 2 years? Less? And further, it's going to have a difficult time shaking the perception of being a "step behind 4e / built upon yesterday's technology". When Monte Cook came out with AU/AE, it was perceived as a step ahead of the current D&D game which allowed it a measure of success. Paizo won't have that advantage.

The writing looks excellent and the team they've put together is top notch.

But my 3.5 days are over.

What he said. I'm not dropping all my Paizo subscriptions yet, though. I'll give them a year to read the GSL and (hopefully) see the light.

I stopped playing D&D about 2 years ago. It was my secondary system to begin with, and I realized that the specific play experiences and elements I liked could very well be converted easily and plugged into what I play (Hero system).

I intend to get both 4th ed and Pathfinder, so I can read the rules and convert the bits that I like into my game. :)

This poll is very telling. After looking at the message boards here over the past month or so, I was getting the impression that the vast majority of RPGers were hardcore against 4E. The poll results here indicate that almost 2/3 of the respondents have already bought into 4E. My assumption would be that a) this poll might be scewed heavily toward the anti-4E vote, just because it has the lable "Pathfinder RPG" on it, and b) more and more people will buy into 4E as the full set of rules become public. I am glad to see that the vast majority of folks here are into the changes and think that 4E is going to be a good thing. Some of these posts have been a bit of a buzz kill. The pro-4Eers appear to make up a mostly silent majority of frequenters here.

That's consistent with past polls.

And that I don't come here much because I have come to expect any skepticism towards 4e to be greeted with a bristling response.

Your view of these forums is different than mine, to be sure. :)

I voted for 4E as I have never really played Pathfinder or used a Paizo product, I have played D&D FR and Arduin for my frpg fix. I really never needed to go to 3rd party publishers for campaigns or supplements. I do wish them well in their chosen path.

As someone who continues to come here, I think this is pretty accurate. The cries against the "haters" are often directed against people who have genuine issues, and those genuine issues are belittled until the person feels it's just not worth posting about the issues, because the real message is just going to get ignored in a flood of 4e buzzword-speak.

And I *am* a skeptic. There are points about 4e that I'm vocally for. There are points I'm vocally against.

Which do you think gets more attention? ;)

I wouldn't be so quick to say that it's Paizo simply deciding not to support 4e.
Apparently Paizo has been planning this for the past year. Simultaneously with planning a conversion to 4e.

It's true, Wizards sitting on the GSL did have an effect, but there's no telling whether Paizo would have supported 4e after they saw the GSL and the ruleset. They were prepared to jump if they didn't like 4e, and given their public statements and the reaction of a number of their subscribers, I'm pretty sure their mind was more-or-less made up weeks ago.
