[PR BAD AXE GAMES] Heroes of High Favor: DWARVES

So were the fans able to review this product at Games Day yesterday? I missed it due to some scheduling conflicts and didn't even know if it was available for purusal.

The BadAxe book was a very pleasant surprise at Game Day. It was handsomely produced and gave me the impression that it was, indeed, a focused and careful product. The art was especially surprising given some of the competition in the market right now. Black and white, lively line work depicting the typical dwarven look in an active style that didn't bore me. So, both "generic" dwarves and eye-catching.

I am genuinely jealous of the blokes who got free copies. I am delighted that I'll only have to pay $9.95 to take BadAxe for a spin.

Joe, don't worry, I'll get you a review copy as promised. Just let me know where to send it.

Wulf, Roland's review was truly glowing. I am averse to printed products. Any chance that you'll rerelease Bad Axe products in electronic format after you've sold out your print run? I would be willing to pay at least $7 for your supplements. Thanks!

Oh, NOW you tell me! :) You could have saved me a lot of startup cash a few months ago!

Seriously though, Alejandro, it honestly depends on how long it takes to sell out the print run. If it's doing well in print, we may decide to do another run. I don't have any expectation of that, just high hopes.

But the short answer is that, yes, we'll consider PDF when the print run at retail is over.

FYI, I just got a copy of this... and it is not what I expected. It has a refreshing lack of fluff. Which is good. Fluff is often campaign specific and often not very good. The book has just enough exposition to get you thinking about your character, then it doesn't pussyfoot around in getting you the tools you need to make it.

One nitpick -- monks are not prohibited from multiclassing, they are just prohibited from progressing as a monk if they do. Given the monks superior skill points, I would never start a monk/fighter off as a fighter.

Cool, Psion, I hope you'll do me the honor of reviewing it.

Regarding the monk multiclass, the PrC option requires a base d8 unarmed damage. While there are certainly other ways to go about it (martial arts styles from OA can do it!) you'll likely need more than a single level of monk to get there, and you may want some additional monk levels once you do.

(Of course in my circles, monks are pretty much free to multiclass anyway.)

If that's the only nitpick you find, I'll count myself a lucky man.

I am very happy that you noticed the "refreshing lack of fluff." It bears repeating: this is a book for PLAYERS. There should be enough general dwarven stuff there to get the player in the proper mindset for whatever campaign specific stuff your DM has in store for you.

If you do decide to review it, I hope you can satisfy my curiosity: What DID you expect?

Heh. We'll see... I am still reading ENNIES stuff (which is, BTW, how I came across this.)

Sure, but you will need those levels whether you start as a fighter or a monk... so why not start as a monk and score the extra points?

Likewise. I give it the award for "most ignored rule ever." Even WotC couldn't wait to ignore the rule, with both FR and OA circumventing it...

I dunno... something with a lot more fluff. :)
