PRC: Gifted Mage

I have a confusion over the basis, 'Gifted'. You mean all the other wizards who work their asses off are just too stupid to take this class :). Shouldn't a gifted mage just be better at the base class? Why don't you come up with a setting element that is at once a reason and a constraint on the class? (Perhaps bodily exposure to the weave, or a really dangerous source of magic?) If a character is going to get a better deal than the other ones (and this is undeniably a better deal they need a real risk or at least less common prereqs.
