To all who are disappointed that I wasn't at all clear that I was not truthful, I apologise.

I was wary because I thought it was unlikely that someone from Sweden would be invited to such an announcement (how many d20 products are produced outside North America and the UK?).

On the other hand, I was about to post that it might just be a change to the OGL and d20 license. So, it did have plausibility for me.

I don't think that a 4E announcement would be an invitation-only affair. The 3E announcement was a huge deal, IIRC (remember the t-shirts with the Pit Fiend?).

I think the announcement would be open. On the other hand, they might have a "heads up" to the d20 companies before the big announcement. Not doing so was their big mistake with 3.5.

I think the Digital Initiative is a better bet.

I agree. Remember that WotC has said all major D&D announcements will be made at the D&D Xperience. That implies that this is either not major or not a D&D announcement. Since Goodman Games has been invited, it clearly deals with D&D, but it might not be just D&D. th DI applies to all games, so that's a possiblility.

Yeah. It sat on the news page for a while until I saw your later admission that you'd made it up. I'm glad I told people to treat it as unsubstantiated rumour.

There is a private event (dinner) taking place on the Wednesday night, which is why you caught me out. I know, because I've been invited to it - but I don't know the agenda.

I promise never to do it again!

But if WotC announces a license, you know who broke the news! :D

Assuming it's the same thing I've been invited to, I've not seen anything to indicate RPG companies have been invited - I was under the impression it was a media thing. But I haven't heard a peep as to what it's actually about.

They refer to it as a "Media Preview Dinner", and the invitations (well, mine does - I assume the others do) merely say "Wizards of the Coast will be hosting a special, intimate dinner for several members of the gaming and sub-pop culture media the evening before Gen Con XL. We hope you will be able to join us as Wizards’ senior marketing and R&D staff answer, in detail, your questions regarding the future of one of the company’s flagship games."

I then have a one-on-one with WotC on Sunday morning.

Since Goodman Games has been invited

That's not what's been said. Maybe GG has been invited (I woudn't know), but all that's been said is a guy who writes for GG heard from a friend that an invite-only press conference was taking place on Wed night.

I have this image of Scott Rouse bringing Morrus into this "meeting" and them pullng back a curtain and revealing that Gleemax is real, and it sending all these crazy tentacles and probes into your head to make you compliant for the DI/4E whatever...

That sounds like the sort of thing that they should do every year.

Is that unusual or at their request?

Yeah, I got that after the fact.

At their invitation - they're doing it with a whole bunch of folks; at least that's the impression I got.

If they have anything major to announce, they've not hinted at it. I imagine that they're keen on previewing/discussing upcoming stuff in the next year.

If it is something major, well... let's hope I can find an internet connection immediately after (during) the dinner! Anyone wanna wait outside with a laptop? :D

So Morrus, what do YOU think this is about?

Pure speculation on my part: Gleemax and/or the DI. But that's based on no information at all other than now's about when I'd expect some major news on it.

But what do I know? Could be anything! Could be nothing! I'll know for sure next Wednesday night. :)
