Precision targeting of spells

I wouldn't mind having some sort of skill that allows for a "mis fire" would make our halfling mage think twice about dropping all of those twiinned maximized scintilating spheres. But now it is non descript because he has master of shaping.

Anybody let there players take there move back if they suddenly see that they will take an AoO. Not me

But if I did implement a misfire rule then the only one who would be affected by it would be my npc's knowing my luck.

I get the player to stand back about five feet, and then lob a tennis ball onto the battlegrid. That's where the fireball lands...

Allow the player of the wizard to determines the centre of the fireball, and give him time to account for the area effect. Characters dying through area-effect accidents is no fun at all, and if it's because of some weird house rule on area effect targeting it can easily make them resentful.

No, actually Al's given what I do, and for similar reasons. :)

Cheers!

I have a very simple rule, which I've shared before to some enthusiasm: caster picks the grid intersection, then rolls 1d20. On a 9-20, Ground Zero is exact; on a 1-8, you use the number to indicate direction, and the impact is 5 feet off. Fast and easy.

This has worked out really well, and contrary to some comments here, my players like it fine.
