That is interesting two stores are boycotting 4E, but to me it sounds more like their gamer ego getting in the way of their business sense. Shutting off a whole product line for a FLGS is not a good idea, especially THE gaming line, which 4E will likely become ( I don't know if it will be good or not, but it is likely it will sell a lot of copies either way.)

Ladies and Gents, please keep from trying to zing each other with insults. If you feel like you're getting insulted, or someone is breaking rules, report the post, and let us mods sort it out. Returning fire is a sure fire way to make trouble worse. Thanks!

That reminds me; assuming 4e really is a significant enough improvement, I might undertake using the Modern SRD and converting the 4e improvements into it.

You won't be the only one. I've heard a number of people make that observation. I imagine that it will be the first one to market that really makes or breaks it, so to speak. The others may come off as simply imitators, unless their implementation is significantly better than the first one out of the gate.

Of course, the official WOTC release of D20 Modern 2.0 using the 4E engine will likely come out a year or so after the 4E release, so your window of opportunity is good if you get it out soon enough.

Be ready to act fast, and good luck, :)

Hah! I didn't mean I would try and sell it, I'd just do it for myself, PDF it, and maybe use it as my own campaign document going forward.

In any case, my design criteria would be "utilizes 4e improvements to the basic d20 engine, while still maintaining the ability to plug and play existing 3e or 3.5e or d20 Modern, etc. creatures, prestige classes, feats, etc. with an absolute minimum of conversion work required."

"Yeah, we designed it, but 3.5 sucks now! The new edition will be SO MUCH better! You'll see! We've fixed ALL the problems! The new system will be uber-fantastic! With cherries on top! No problems at all!

For now!"

Heh. That is the one thing I find so . . . so doublethinkish about the 4e hype; how WotC designers are now dissing 3.5 and all the "problems" in it. Makes one's head spin.

The only difference between 1E, 2E and 3E in this regard is time, sorry.

Go back and look at some archived threads. This very prediction was made about 2E and, well, we know how that one turned out.
I don't know. I hear OSRIC supplements are doing quite well. Just because supplements aren't being produced for something doesn't mean that there is no market for it. I suspect that if a company specialized in 3.x supplements and ignored 4.0, they might make a decent living.
