I've managed to stop myself from pre-ordering so far. I'll definitely get the books eventually but I'm trying to hold out for a second printing so that they can fix up a lot of the initial errata that will come out in the first couple of months. There's also the fact that we've only just finished the first adventure in the Shackled City AP. At the rate we're going it will be the end of next year at least before we even start a 4E campaign! :D

Well, I canceled my pre-order with Amazon when my FLGS was able to get the books within a few bucks. I'm not going to shave a handful of dollars in the short term and undermine my local game store in the long term. My self interest is served by having the store here, and it's worth paying a few extra dollars to do so.

Okay! I'll plug it!

For those of you in Vancouver who think that Port Moody is far away (it's a common misconception) it's about a 1/2 hour drive from downtown, if you go east up Hastings (unless you're in rush-hour, then it's a bit longer) My store's easier to get to than SFU from ANYWHERE other than campus.

I've got the PH on pre-order and that's it. I had the DMG on pre-order too but canceled that one because I'm still not sure I like where the game's going. If the PH doesn't win me over to switch my main game, at least I'll still be set for the occasional pick-up session and won't have overspent too much.

Retail versus Online

Honestly, prices like that PISS ME OFF. I'm a RETAILER (you know, with a STORE) and I'm going to be paying around $60 for all three books. How the heck am I supposed to compete with these on-line price-gougers who get some rediculous bulk discount off of WotC and then make about $3 a sale but sell hundreds of thousands of them, while I'm stuck with the stupid "suggested retail" of *** $104.95 *** or discount heavily and go out of business?

Congrats on your cheap find.

Fitz

Posted here the discussion about buying one's books online versus at the store. Interesting stuff.
