prepping for Loremaster PrC - concepts?

Driddle

First Post
I'd like to work a new character toward attaining the Loremaster prestige class, but I don't want him to be a stereotypical, boring bookworm or arcane magic-magic-magic type of guy.

Any ideas for the character's focus on his way to becoming a loremaster? Motivations? Special topics he could pursue? (ex: wizardly student who is more interested in the potential uses of a quarterstaff - mundane, martial and magical - as well as its history and other important staves through history)

Multiclassing is an acceptable option, as long as it's possible for him to attain the PrC upon reaching 11th level. Feat and skill suggestions appreciated. (Race and attribute ideas, too, as long as they're important to the concept. I usually prefer human, though.)

Don't forget that Clerics can become Loremasters too, although the PrC isn't really designed with them in mind.

Perhaps (if it's allowed) you could start off with an Arcane Disciple (a variant Cleric class from Dragon #311) whose basis is a cleric who worships magic above all else. Of course, the character's subject of choice would be magic.

How about a druidic loremaster? Someone whose main study focus is naturey stuff?

And by the way, does a loremaster's special ability stack with that of a bard? I forget what the descriptions are on each. ... if so, I'd suggest a musician loremaster.

Here's an odd one:

Perhaps the character isn't particularly smart - however, they've got the ghost of an archmage or a celestial/demon in residence in their head. This creature keeps telling them how to learn and use magic... whether they want to or not? Loremaster knowledge is down to the extra passenger telling them secrets...

A cleric of the god of knowledge could make for an interesting loremaster - would be different from the usual as there'd be the whole faith angle?

First post.

Just a general concept. How about a magical version of an archealogist. I am not saying you need to make an Indiana Jones clone, but the loremaster lends himself well to rooting out old magic and forgotten sites. Perhaps your reseach the sites and/or items of interest and then assemble the teams to go investigate.

A wizard/thief would work well. Maybe even the bard suggested earlier.

I'm thinking bard at this point (even though the Metamagic feat requirement seems like waste for a bard). Has it ever been clarified whether bardic knowledge stacks with the lore ability?

Or maybe a combat weapon-oriented fighter/wizard who only uses magic as a means to becoming more physically cabable. Or something.

(shrug) Still dunno yet. But thanks for the ideas.
