Prestige Class or Pain in the (Cl)ass?

*sighs* I wish I read that. I could have told you they weren't Spur Lords. Spur Lords look more like that pic of Cyric in the novel: Tantras.

I'm also disposed to making the PHB save booster feats +3 as well. They really suck to take. They aren't glamorous. Every time a player has taken one, they grumble about it endlessly. They only took it because they botched a save that wreaked havoc (usually a Will save).

Um, you've just listed how _valuable_ a save booster feat can be. It doesn't matter whether you're 1st or 15th level, you can never have too high a Will or Fort save (Ref depends). Having tons of hit points or sky-high AC is well and good, but all it takes is one blown save against a disintegrate or dominate person and you're toast. Iron Will and Great Fortitude should be on every character's list of must-have feats, IMO.

Geez, hong. Do you think you could get any more overpowered with that prestige class? :p

d12 HD, 4 skill points/level, Fighter's BAB, Frenzy, DR, Evasion... and only Power Attack and Cleave for prerequisites.

I'll have to bookmark that one for future use... :D

Fallen servants of darkness don't have to follow the rules. ;)

Heck, any DM that allows this class or the blackguard for PCs is a bit funny anyway, in my book.

Aaargh! Flashbacks to the dusk argument!

Ahem, anyways, short take:

Yes, some prestige classes blow chunks.
Yes, there are entirely too many of them.

No, making you take some less than optimum feats and skills is not a bad thing. TANSTAAFL. You weasels.

Nah. For that to happen, I'd have to get up on a soapbox about how the class really IS balanced when you look at it the right way, and everyone who disagrees is either dimwitted or trolling.

Also, the black knight really is balanced. You just have to look at it the right way. If you compare it to CENSORED CENSORED CENSORED

Hmmm?

I only have one character with a PrC (Loremaster) and every single one of the prereqs he would have gotten anyways, and I didnt even know about the PrC till about 5th level

so for me so far the PrC's are directly in the direction my character would have gone anyways.

I settled the stupid PRC thing long ago. I don't allow any of them, period.

No PRC's, No weapons styles, Nothing.

To make up for it though I do allow Prestige Feats like Canny (you may add your Int to AC if you aren't weaing armor).

There are like oh twenty million :) feats now, I figure with those and judicious multi classing you can do pretty much any concept you want.

I may just be talking out my rear here, so stop me if I do but.....

It seems to be PrC are to be specific campaign flavour and to be adapted to suit those needs and not the needs of some universal standard. So It doesn't suprise that PrCs from forgotten realms seems stupid in your own campaign, since they were not made for your campaign. Besides, they are optional anyways. Aren't options fun?! :D

BTW I loved Skills and Powers from 2nd ED. You could tailor your own race and class. What a munchkin's dream system!
