Printer Help

Alright...I got a new printer(finally) a couple months back and have finally gotten around to installing it. All the software and such is done and fine...no problem there. The problem is, its a USB printer, and for some reason, my computer will not recognize that it exists. I've gone through looking at all the Printer Properties to figure out how to change where the computer should look for the Printer, but it keeps looking on the old ports, and refuses to believe that a USB printer is possible.
Probably haven't given enough information, but...can anyone help? Or does my computer/printer just hate me? :)

Have you tried connecting the USB cable to the printer first then to the PC second while it is on?

I once did the reverse (USB cable to PC first, External HD second) and it freezes my PC.

It may be possible you may need to update the USB port driver, if nothing is wrong with your printer driver. Or you can uninstall the printer driver for your new printer and do the connection above and see if Windows ME can find the appropriate driver. After that, install the printer driver if it is an updated version.

I would suggest uninstalling the printer software and unhooking the printer. Reboot the computer, connect the printer and then if windows recognizes the printer, install the software.

Just how I usually deal with stuff of this nature.

Hi, mate!

1) Are you sure there are no problems with the USB ports themselves? Older athlon based computers with VIA chipsets usually have problems with USB devices.

2) Can you tell me the brand and model of your printer?

Great start. :)

Have you installed the printer drivers from the CD? With USB especially in ME you need to install drivers and then hook up your equipment. Unfortunately, USB is finicky in ME..it doesn't have a Printer port on the printer?

I've installed, uninstalled, and re-installed the drivers a few times...all from CD. I just recently had to pick up a USB Hub for more ports, but its working just fine for all the other things I have hooked up to it...and even before I had that when I tried connected the Printer straight to the USB on the computer, it still wouldn't do it.

The Printer is a....*looks*....Lexmark P122. I'd use a non-USB cable if I could, but the printer only HAS a USB port. The computer knows the printer exists SOMEWHERE...I just can't figure out how to tell it to look at the USB ports.

Hmm...maybe it just needs a good kick. :D
