I do not seem to have access to private messaging, though I paid for access that I thought included it. Is PM'ing not available, or am I maybe doing something wrong, or is it separate access that must be purchased individually?

Did you happen to choose to not receive private messages? Otherwise one of the admins will have to attend to this.
