To close the loop on this:

After some discussion, we are going to try to make some space.

If a thread is about WotC business choices, then it is about WotC business choices. WotC is not above criticism, and the topic is not forbidden from the site. Nor is it going to be shoved into its own forum.

But, if a thread is about something specific, like new rules, or the content of a particular product, we are going to tend to view criticism of business choices as "Off Topic", and ask folks to take it to another thread. If folks don't comply, threadbannings may result.

If the poster is particularly rude about it, or the content isn't particularly thoughtful, we might consider it Threadcrapping, and that might mean you get booted unceremoniously from the discussion.

Multiple infractions of this sort may lead to vacations from the site.

Note the, "tend to," "may," and, "might consider" - as with all moderation, we will look at all reports, but we do not guarantee that we will agree that something is actionable.

Can't go into the sigil thread without people complaining, again, about micro transactions.... Because we haven't talked about that enough.
And here you highlight the problem and why it’s not a clear-cut moderation issue. You see that as annoying because you’ve ‘talked about it enough’. But for every conversation you’ve had 10 times, it’s the first time for somebody; and we can’t forbid lines of conversation based on whether you are bored of them. Plus microtransactions are directly relevant and on topic for the thread.

So to be clear, we’re not going to moderate people for having conversations that have been had before; and if the criticism is relevant and on topic, then it’s valid criticism.

If somebody had started randomly ranting about the OGL in that thread, I’d agree that’s off topic. But microtransactions aren’t. They are very much on topic.

I just wanted to give a big thank you to @Morrus @Umbran and @Dannyalcatraz

Moderation is a thankless task. But @Mistwell raised an issue here in meta, and they listened to the thoughtful conversation, and they provided feedback.

I am sure that there are those that will be unhappy that they aren't doing more, and those that think this is too much, but that's usually the sign of a good and reasonable approach.

It's easy to become used to how well this place usually functions; I think it is important to acknowledge that it functions so well, so much of the time, and has such a decent community of people because of the work that is put in. There are a lot of places to talk on the internet; this is much more pleasant than almost any place I've seen, and there is a reason for that.

I appreciate all that y'all do, and that you listen to our reasonable (and, um, unreasonable) feedback. Thank you!

Very fair.

Agreed. I think it's the right amount, and I am sure it means more burden on them. I'm thankful.
