Probably a silly question about breaking down doors...

Ok, probably a silly question, but here goes:

Let's say you have a standard wooden door with hardness 5, 15 hit points, Break DC of 18. I understand the hardness means the first 5 HP of damage are negated and I definitely understand the HP. But what does a Break DC of 18 mean?

That's the DC for a strength check to bash the door open. The hardness is for chopping it down with a weapon, while the DC is to bust it open.

It means that you can try a Str check (DC 18) to attempt to burst the door open.
