Products You'd Like WoTC to do

Upper_Krust: Excellent post, and I second nearly all of what you said. The only exceptions I'd have are the name and the fate of Epic Toughness.

I'd prefer it called "Expanded Epic Level Handbook" to tie it in with the Expanded Psionics Handbook. Semantics, but it seems more synergistic.

Improved Toughness isn't really a suitable replacement for Epic Toughness, as Epic Toughness can be taken repeatedly and stacks with itself, while Improved Toughness does not.

Other things I'd like to see in an Expanded Epic Level Handbook:

  • Guidelines for pumping up the archfiends, celestial paragons, etc. so that they continue to be the "big dogs" of their respective planes.
  • More epic feats geared towards monsters to level the playing field, such as "Epic/Improved Awesome Blow", Epic Ability Focus, Greater Crush, etc.
  • Rules or advice for how and when an epic item becomes an artifact. It just seems nutty to me that my +9 holy dragon dread longsword can be destroyed by mortal means while St. Cuthbert's Cudgel cannot.
  • Variants that allow epic spells/effects/items to bypass nonepic protections. It bugs me to no end that the death effect of a CR 45 monster can be thwarted by a 4th-level spell, or that everyone and their brother can be immune to criticals thanks to +1 heavy fortification armor costing only 36,000 gp. :(
  • Give rogues a fighting chance to use their main ability, sneak attack, whether it be through feats or greater abilities. As it stands, 90% of epic opponents will be immune to sneak attacks, and lugging around dread weapons vs. multiple creature types is a bit lame.

I saw someone on the first page lament being the only one who wanted Spelljammer and just wanted to show my solidarity, cause I want it too! :D

And all the others mentioned...

Spelljammer had some real gems to it.

If WoTC had some intestinal fortitude, they'd make it a d20 Modern campaign with an appendix for Dungeons & Dragons. It could be the next Space 1899 I tell ya. No, seriously.

Okay, I'd be happy if it came back out for D&D, but as d20 Modern's urban fantasy thing didn't seem to go anywhere, I'd love to see another d20 Modern setting... atlhough I do love me some Dark Matter, one of the best horror/mystery/X-files style settings ever.

Well,

First off Greyhawk, Greyhawk, Greyhawk, lots of Greyhawk.

Second, a brand new D20 Future setting which isn't a clone of Star Wars or Traveller. Something with a more contemporary Transhumanist slant akin to Peter Hamilton's Night's Dawn series minus the dead people and the Deus Ex Machina ending.

Third, a Fantasy China setting. No OA does even remotely count. Wuxia man, Wuxia.

Beyond that Races of the Mind would be great. A total redo of D20 Future with a tool set that shares the same tool box (ie. not completely different systems for starships, mechs and personal weapons).

The Spelljammer boxed set (The Adventure) dealing with the spelljammer it's self was an awesome set. I loved how all the factions were fighting over control of the Jammer, and how the PC's fit in. We had a PC that wanted to pilot it, good thing for him he never did he did :p

If they redesign the Epic Level Handbook they need to make sure that the warrior feats they include really are epic. You shouldn't have to be 21st level to shoot a bow in melee. Most of the other warrior feats are similarly, ridiculously low-powered.

Well, although I think that Planescape has many good qualities, it's cosmology may not work for all settings.
Which is how I feel about Athas, Eberron, and Krynn.... totally inappropriate for the Great Wheel. :)

So, my opinion on cosmology is that it should be up to the DM --- and to the designers for published settings. So, a Planescape book may work, but there might need to be a few ways to make sure it does not contradict currently published material such as FR's own cosmology. (A simple solution would be to have the transitive planes such as the Plane of Shadow, the Astral Plane, and the Ethereal Plane serve as links to different cosmologies.)
IF a PS book is ever published I think a great way to handle this would be to have a section on running PS as 'merely' the hub of Greyhawk or as a true, central cosmology for many other Primes (as it used to be). The section would have advice on how to adopt Eberron, Krynn, Athas, Faerun, and any other pertinent worlds to the Great Wheel.

Planescape should be about options and whether or not I (or anyone else for that matter) agrees with those options, they should be present I think, even if only as an optional thing. :)

Arbiter of Worms, Eberron has its own distinct cosmology. So, I believe it would not remain what it is and work with Planescape. A new Planescape product might sell well, but there are other cosmologies besides the Great Wheel. (One could argue that the Great Wheel itself could be part of an even larger cosmology. This would allow both the current FR cosmology and the Great Wheel cosmology to work. Both would just be parts of a larger whole. Some places, like Ravenloft, Eberron or Athas, might be very hard to reach, from the Great Wheel.)

Possibly a good extensive updated book on planes, with the Great Wheel as a default example, might be printed before a new Planescape book. It could have a few teasers and also cover various rules and options about different planes.

Good ideas, people!

Eberron's easy enough to work into Planescape. In the Ethereal plane there is a tear in the planar fabric. Planar researchers have a tower floating around it so they can study the arcane energies. This was in the guide to the ethereal. Hints are that this tear leads into the Far Realm, a place outside the boundaries of the multiverse. The Daelkyr of Eberron are from the plane of madness. It's easy for the plane of madness and the Far Realm to be two names for the same reality. Now you've got a link.

The likelihood of getting through the Far Realm to Eberron is low enough that it keeps the settings apart from each other.

Speaking of Spelljammer, I'd like to see Races of the Stars, with rules for Giff, Xixchil, and any other Spelljammer races the designers think appropriate.
