Pronunciation of Drow

Don't know about anyone else, but I pronounce "bulette" as "landshark."

I was recently playing Divine Divinity crpg and there's a number of voice actors in that game. Every single time any of them said the word "sword" they would pronounce the W. And it wasn't just one voice actor but all of them. I thought the game was good, but that just made me cringe every single time. Ugh.

Drow, Trow and Troll are all sister words. "Troll" sounds a lot closer to "crow" than "cow", doesn't it?

In British English, there are two correct pronunciations, one with the "o" as in "collar" and the other as in "mole".

I prefer the "o" like the one in "mole".

I've been to Norway, but I can't remember how they say it. They love their trolls in Norway.

I have always said Droh. It just sounds better, drow as in cow... it sounds lazy. But just because the origonator of a word says its pronounced in a certain way, doesn't mean they are correct.

Therefore, if you pronounce drow as rhyming with cow, you should also pronounce troll as "trowel". So there. 8)

Um... "trow" also rhymes with now and cow. Trow did descent from troll, but there are quite a number of languages in the way. Since "drow" is just an alternate English pronunciation for "trow," I have to go with the right pronunciation -- the one that's winning the poll.
