Psionic Forsaker?

Psionics Handbook, page 10:

"Psionics are spell-like abilities."

It does not matter whether or not you are using the "psionics are different" rules variant.

Masters of the Wild, page 58:

"[The Forsaker] must also sell or give away all his magic items (including magic weapons, armor, and potions) and renounce the use of any spellcasting and spell-like abilities he previously used."

Allowing the Forsaker to use psionic powers is a clear and direct violation of the rules, as written. You could allow it as a house rule, but I wouldn't, nor do I think it would be particularly balanced. Psionics are not quite as good as magic in most campaigns, but it's a very viable alternative, so giving up magic but keeping psionics is not much of a sacrifice.

Since psionics are spell like and these feats depend on psionics to use, I would have to say that these feats would not be allowed for a Forsaker.

I'd actually allow a Forsaker to use Psionic Feats. (Bear with me here.) The SRD doesn't mention them as being spell-like, nor supernatural, at least that I could locate with a quick scan.

I would point out, however, that Psionic defenses and attacks are spell-like abilities (defenses don't provoke an AoO) and the Forsaker would be in the worst possible situation when subject to a psionic attack. He's not a "bone brain" and if he uses his PP to defend himself, he loses all his Forsaker abilities.

Going not by a strict read of the rules, which I don't have time for, but rather by a designer intent, I would say, not just no, but <expletive> no. It would just be way unbalanced....

True, but if 'psionics are the same', then his spell resistance would affect a psionic attack.

Whoops. Sorry, it's on page 35, second paragraph under Concentration.

Where the **** did I get 10?

Ah, okay, got it :-)

I figured if a monk's abilities were called into question, the psychic warriors would be, so I guess it's one more prestige class the barbarian/ psychic warrior is ineligible for ...
