Is there an end to Ptolus marketing hype? Why not release all the damn PDFs at the same time? And the "Testamonials From Gen Con" section looks like something I'd expect to see from a used car salesman, not one of the industry's leading designers.

Because that's a good way of making sure that people talk about the product for a long time.

Given how much initial resistance there was to such a high-priced item, I think they had to start advertising early so they could be sure of breaking even.

If we're going to stop talking about products that we as consumers are interested in, you've got hundreds more posts to police here on the general board, since that makes up more than a third of it, such as the WotC catalog thread you're currently participating in.

So when people post threads about WOTC upcoming release schedule, or post the link to a product preview on the Wizards website is that also advertising?

If you do not like Ptolus that is cool. But it is unreasonable to assume that people are not going to talk about it, the same way they talk about every other release by a major RPG company.

Wow, the pdfs are actually well-priced. I can't really justify buying the hardcopy, despite how shiny the Player's Guide was, but I'll be picking up a few of the pdfs.
