I don't watch much Nickelodeon, really (my daughter's more of a PBS kids kind of gal), but I caught the first 4 episodes the other night.

It's a really imaginative series. Aang is a great leading character (as a believable 12-year-old reincarnated master), the whole element-magic is neat, even if they don't use an eastern version of the elements. It's really a lot of fun, and worth checking out.

Does the series hold up as it goes on?

Can't say, I am a late comer myself. But hearing from friends and family, one who is a school teacher.

They are very impressed.

I was impressed by their impression.

The show is definitely aimed at kids, but it has matured a bit through its run. I've really liked every episode.

This is only the end of season 1 as far as I know. The show doesn't follow the normal US TV season pattern. It started back in February 2005 and ran a new episode every 2 weeks or so with a complete hiatus in July and August. I believe the 2nd season, or book as the show calls them, is supposed to start in early 2006.

The Thanksgiving marathon showed Episodes 1 through 18, I believe. Is this finale Episode 19? Or were there other episodes between the first 18, and now this finale?

I've seen the whole series, and I'd say it holds up well. Compares favorably to other animated series like the original animated Batman, or excellent anime such as Fullmetal Alchemist, IMHO.

Thanks for the reminder, Truth Seeker! I hope I get home in time to watch it. :)

Gotta work tonight and have the wife record it.

though written for tweens it still is entertaining for adults at least adults who like that sort of thing. I never lost my interest in Cartoons. :)

The relationships are well written and the animation/imagery is fairly powerful. I think I could run a campaign in a world based on this one. The different martial arts and cultures are interesting and appealing.

The finale is an hour long and represents episodes 19 and 20 of the series.
