Publishers: Why'd you name your company what you did?

Heh. Come to think of it (pessimist that I am), that would be useful in a small company with woefully high turnover. Never have to worry that the head of sales' email address is going to bounce back. Just give the new guy the same laptop and call him Mr. Green.
I believe that's how they do it at Reservoir Dogs Press. :p

I started out in the industry doing work for a small company called Roc Games. Back then there was an Inner Circle of people at Roc that wanted to do their own thing. So we chose to go with Inner Circle Games. When we went to Gencon we never realized there was an Inner City Games, so we changed the name to simply "The Inner Circle" to avoid confusion. Nothing too exciting I'm afraid...

...I'm not sure where he came up with the name though I am sure the "B" and the "A" was the seed of the idea...

I think there was a character in Robert Aspirin's Myth books named BadAxe:)

"Lions Den" game about as a result of the fact that we're a partnership, so we wanted a name that implied multiple participants, and because we spent weeks tossing around other names that the two of us couldn't agree on.

Nothing more symbolic than that. The fact that "Ari" means "lion" in Hebrew is, honestly, a complete coincidence.

(Not kidding. The name "Lions Den" was C.A.'s suggestion, not mine.)

Thuh Luh Games - or as The Le pointed out - The The Games in Frenglish
I think that's a conclusion only us Canadians might come to (not sure how many other nationalities consider "Frenglish" a de facto national language).

Gallantry Productions (a name I'm sure none of you are familiar with) is the publisher of MODERNIZED. My name is David S. Gallant, see. I've always been proud of my last name. Most people are tempted to say it like it's a French word, or worse, say "Gal-ONT". No. It's pronounced as it's spelled... "Gallant," a word implying nobility and bravery. I've always wanted to use my last name in a company name associated with me. So, when I went about creating MODERNIZED, I threw on the "Gallantry Productions" moniker... and that's how it started.

Some of you have some way better stories about your names, I'll tell you that.

The' Le is actually my name, pronounced Tay Lee (vietnamese).

I just assumed that when people saw "The Le Games" they would pronounce it "the Lay Games" or "the Lee Games", and assume I put the "the" in there to be difficult.

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect people to simply refer it as "Le Games", which actually has a nice french connotation to it ("Le" is "the" in french -- the irony does not elude me).

Of course, I considered going with "The The Games", but would people have then just referred to it as "The Games?"

*shrug*

Wow. That's good to know. I think the name of your company has been driving me insane for almost a year. Mind you...it's a short trip.

Lets see... I love undead in my campaigns. My favorite demon prince is Orcus. I love spheres of annihilation (which was a part of the old Necro logo which can still be found on our message boards). Necromancer Games seemed to fit. I had the idea years ago back when TSR was crushing D&D compatible companies. So when d20 came around I revived my little idea. Besides, Bill and I are both evil wizards at heart... And on top of that we all know that evil is cooler than good so we figured that would help sales :)
