You cannot have more than one holy sword at a time.
Is there a decent reason why? Why couldn't a 2WF paladin have two Holy Swords active?

It's trivial to rewrite the description to say that all weapons held by the paladin gain the benefit, but presumably there's a reaon why.

Each level assumes a certain amount of buffing and abilities relative to CR... multiple holy swords would inch into questionable balance territory. I don't think it would be a game breaker, but as a GM, I stick with it as written. It would be a little too sweet.

I can't immagine any but the most generous DMs ever letting a player find a second holy sword to even bring the question up. Actually, a rat-bastard DM would probably let you find two swords, but they would both be intelligent and hate each other and demand that the paladin choose between the two of them.

I think you're confusing the spell Holy Sword with the weapon Holy Avenger.
I see no balance reason not to allow two Holy Swords at once, since none of the effects stack. There are two reasons I can see that they might have put that line in:
1)Flavor. Perhaps the deity blesses the sword, and will not be convinced to bless two swords simultaneously.
2)A mistake. They meant "You may not have more than one Holy Sword per casting of this spell." as clarification.

OOoooooh- I can just hear it now...

Blood of Martyrs: "Slay the Dragon!"

Radiant Grace: "Convert the Dragon!"

Blood of Martyrs: "Nay, Slay that hellspawn wurm!"

Radiant Grace: "Think of it as a living symbol of our God's faith- Convert it!"

Sir Froedricke: "AAAAAAAAAAAAGH! Can't we all just get along?"

Dragon: "Breaaaaaaaaaaathe munchmunchmunchmunch"

:D

Oh, yes, definitely if we're just talking about the 'Holy' ability, there should be no limits to that. One for each hand, I say!

A true paladin, lucky enough to have multiple magical swords, would give one of the blades to an associate, follower, or ally as a gift. Excess wealth is given away, as is a tithe. So, under that theory, there aren't any 2WF paladins.

On the other hand, you are presuming there are 2WF paladins. So, lets assume there are 2WF paladins. In that case, it is just a flavor restriction. Possibly a slight balance restriction as well. Since Holy Sword is a powerful spell, we'll restrict it to only one weapon at a time.
