Question about Augmented Healing

Couple of questions about this feat from the Complete Divine...

Augment Healing
Benefit

Add +2 points per spell level to the amount of damage healed by any Conjuration (Healing) spell that you cast.
This raises two questions in regard to some spells that are Conjuration (Healing).

Vigor line of spells: These spells grant the target fast healing for a length of time. Does Aug. Healing affect these spells? They are the right type of spell and are healing but dont heal directly, they grant the fast healing ability.

Restoration: Would Aug. Healing affect the ability damage healed by these spells?

Any thoughts?

I would say no and no.

Seems to me it is designed for the Cure <adjective> Wounds spells.

I am guessing that it should only apply to spells with a duration of instantaneous.

Also, I interpret "damage" as hit points not ability score loss.

Lastly, I don't think my above opinions are based on real strong fact. Just my opinions.

IMO, it could maybe work with Vigor spells, but the +2 would only apply, say, on the first round, so that the feat would do what it says it does (ie +2 hp healed per spell level, per casting).

Although I don't think it's in the spirit of the feat, I wouldn't mind letting it work with Lesser Restoration, since it's the only other Conjuration (healing) spell that actually heals a certain amount of (in this case ability) damage apart form Cure spells.

Does the feat make it so you can damage undead more with Cure spells?

fast healing

The vigor spells don't actually heal themselves, but rather grant the fast healing ability and therefore do not fall under the jurisdiction of augmented healing.

Or so my addled mind seems to think.

I feel that this feat only applies on "cure" spells (mass or not). Taking it further would carry it beyond the implied intent of the feat IMO.

I would interpet the feat to affect lesser restoration (as it heals ability damage, and the feat affects spells that heal damage- which I would define as hit points, nonlethal damage and ability damage.

Let's try a hypothetical custom healing spell, call it touch of Bob, that has the following effect on its target:

This spell heals 3d6 hit points of damage to the target. It also heals 1d4 points of ability damage to any single ability of the target's choice. Finally, it also heals 5d6 points of nonlethal damage to the target.

How would this spell, cast by a cleric with Augmented Healing, affect a troll who had been caught in a fireball for 30 hp, hit by a sword for 25 points of nonlethal and poisoned for 6 str? Would it affect only one type of healing? Or would it 'triple up'? Hm, troublesome...

The glossary defines damage as "A decrease in hit points, an ability score, or other aspects of a character caused by an injury, illness, or magical effect."

Thus Augmented Healing would help with the Restoration line of spells.

Jester's Touch of Bob would heal 2 points/spell level extra. Not 2 points/spell level/healing effect. ;)

must-have

Were the feat to be interpreted that way I would suspect it of being too good. What cleric wouldn't take a feat that affected all of those spells, considering the frequency with which they're cast?

Well, lots of clerics prefer to be more than just the party healer.
