Question about the D&DI Character Builder

I'm considering subscribing to D&D Insider, but before i make up my mind, I would like to know if I can share the full version of the character builder with the rest of my group, or does everyone have to subscribe in order to use the character builder? Also, how would you rate the monster builder?

With the Character Builder you get 5 downloads per month. Some have mentioned that if you are OK with giving the others in your group your log in name and password, you could give it to 4 other people. My reading of the EULA (I am NOT a lawyer) is that that is something they do not want you to do.

The Monster Builder is fantastic!

Thaumaturge.

I know that you get a certain number of updates per month (5, I think) with the character builder and a subscription, so technically, if your group shared one or two accounts, I don't necessarily think there's anything against that in the user license, because it updates once, and doesn't need to be attached to the site at all times in order to function.

I also know the character builder is free up to the first three character levels, though it's not up to date until you hook in with a subscription.

I will finally say that the WotC 4E Character Builder is one of the slickest pieces of RPG software I've seen in a long time. It's an awesome package, dare I say worth paying for.

Disclaimer: I don't have a scubscription currently, because I don't play much 4E anymore, though I plan to renew if I get back into it regularly.

Yeah because there are 5 updates per month that means you can easily have 5 copies running at once, like if you have 5 PCs (byte PCs, not DnD PCs!).As to the legality of that I don't know but I have one on my main PC, and have 'lent' copies to my players for their PCs.

According to the EULA, no. At the technical level, yes, and WotC doesn't seem to watch what you do real closely.

Also note that the character builder just needs a username and password to update/install, not to run. So you can install it on a friend's computer and they don't have to have your password to use the CB.
