Question about the "Landlord" feat from SBG

No no, there are two columns in the table attached to this feat: the first column describes the amount you receive when you first take the feat, and the second describes the additional amounts you receive as you level. It's not a linear relationship, since 25,000 gp becomes less significant in the higher levels. Also, the 1:1 matching funds are simply gravy.

I love this book, as much as I love the concept of Leadership: it's fantastic when applied correctly and with the right PC motivation. Definitely talk to your DM, or speak with any player who wants to pick this feat. The numbers are balanced like the rest of 3E, and the book is filled with advice on using strongholds in your campaign, whether as a place to put your comfy chair or as a plot hook to future adventures.

2 notes:

1; I meant i would not allow a player to "buy" this kind of patronage (ongoing and automatic in nature) with a feat - the opposite of what someone implied i meant.

2; the leadership feat grants the ABILITY to gain followers and cohorts, not automatic followers and cohorts (see the effects on loyalty of mistreating your followers in the DMG)

hAlso - who uses a conventional stronghold in the course of an adventure? Unless you are in a Naval Campaign - and the stronghold can MOVE - I fail to see the point.

The point is, not all campaigns are about a roving fellowship travelling the world, wandering in search of monsters to slay.

Some people may have a more political game, where their character stay at the same place and interact with the same NPCs. From what I've understood, the SBG can allow to play a little like you play in Ars Magica, where the game is centered on the Covenant (the building and the association of the characters) and you got to play its various inhabitants, from the ruling wizard to the lowly stable-boy; depending on the scenario.

Of course, gaining henchmen as a class benefit is probably one of the "sacred cows" from previous edition, so it figures that they made it available...

Of course, the main class that benefited from cool henchment was the ranger - and oh no! another class ability of the ranger shafted!
