Creature Cataloguer
i figured i would shoot this past you before i wrote up a Dragon mag article submission query thingie. i found this bit recently in the old 1E D&DG, and it made me think there might be something to explore there:

"Bugbears have a simple pantheon of six deities, including gods of earth, death, fertility, hunting and fear. Hruggek, the god of battle, is the most powerful and important, though he doesn't rule the others."

now some of those have been written up subsequently (Monstrous Mythology, 2E), but at least 2 or 3 of them to the best of my knowledge are still unwritten. the question is, would you be receptive to a 3.5 writeup of this pantheon? if so, would it be best to be in Complete Divine format or in the new D&DG format?

Boz,

I don't imagine anyone has the stomach for a Deities & Demigods format article on such an obscure topic. Take it from the co-author of Faiths & Pantheons: deity stat blocks are a pain in the ass. Plus, I have a suspicion that almost no one uses them.

Call me crazy.

So I'd go for the Complete Divine format. Write up a formal proposal as suggested in the submission guidelines at paizo.com. Be sure to include a list of the deities and a brief snapshot of your "take" on that deity.

True, for deities, reduced statblocks (divine rank, levels, ability scores, domains, alignment) is all what is needed. Feats, skills, SDA, and so on will be overlooked 99.9% of times.

Useless is a very strong word. It implies that there is no possible situation where god-stats will ever be used, and with the Epic rules that's simply not true. Fighting an evil god or dealing in some other way with a non-evil one is a great way to continue (perhaps cap off) the career of an epic party.

That being said, full stats for a god aren't going to see play very often, even in an epic game.

naw, you're hardly crazy for feeling that way. ;) i've written a few deity stat blocks before... it's a lot more work than writing up a monster, even a dragon. i wouldn't say that no one uses them, but the percentage of people who make use of them would be a very small one and limited mostly to certain epic level campaigns. beleive me, i know - the last thing i wanted to do was get into a fight with Lolth when she appeared, but the rest of the party had other ideas...

will do. i suppose Hruggek has been sufficiently covered already(?) so i will focus on the other five. thanks for your input! :)

BOZ asks for a response from Erik Mona, I respond by suggesting he might get a quicker response by posting on the paizo boards . . .

and the very next post is from Mona. Ain't I helpful?
