Question: How do you rationalize opportunity attacks?

One can EASILY circumvent the testicular fortitude of PCs fumbling or getting critted on way more often than NPCs during their narrative lifetimes: One must confirm fumbles on PCs, but not crits, and one must confirm crits for NPCs, but not fumbles. This allows PCs to feel more heroic, and less fragile, while adding that x-factor and reducing the annoyance of extra rolls to confirm crits (I highly doubt any PCs would mind an extra roll to confirm a fumble, when it's him fumbling).

jeez, use a little creativity. I'm not even a game designer by profession and this asymmetry occurred to me. I only program RPG video games, so what do I know.
