Question on a Dragon Shaman aura

I continue to think the Dragon Shaman is a pretty nifty core class. I don't understand why it isn't very popular. Maybe the flavor of the class turns people off? If it were called "Aura Master" and it's powers were described as emanating powerful energy fields rather than being dependant on Dragons, perhaps people would have taken to the class more.
I think it's Bard (and Marshal) syndrome - people prefer to play the characters that deal out the damage, instead of the buffers who help others do the same...

Looks like. Easy solution: Play a bard that deals out damage.

Actually, I'm currently playing in a gestalt game as a Bard//Dragon Shaman. I'm the group's healer/buffer, but I can also dish it out, if needed. All I really need to do to complete my buffage of the entire team in a fight is spend one standard action singing. My bard song lasts more than long enough to finish the fight, and my energy aura is up pretty much contantly when I'm not using the fast healing aura after combat. The buffs from my Bard spells and the DR from the Fey Touched feats even make me a better tank than the pally//monk (though my damage OUTPUT can't touch the guy).

The point is, buffers are usually better at more things than most other classes. They pay for this by not being AS GOOD as the guys who specialize, but that doesn't make them bad by any means.

The only reason why the last bard we had was not better at damage output than the other archer in the group was because that other archer benefitted from the bards song as well. Give the bard an ability to only boost himself (perhaps with +1 compared to his normal song) and he'll rock.

Whenever I count out "damage dealt" I always attribute buff damage to the buffer, not the buffee. Which makes it amusing when hordes of goblins attack the group with energy aura up.

I do think a well optimized bard with one or two levels in Marshall and one or two levels in Dragon Shaman can be a massive buffer.
