Question on a Dragon Shaman aura

I continue to think the Dragon Shaman is a pretty nifty core class. I don't understand why it isn't very popular. Maybe the flavor of the class turns people off? If it were called "Aura Master" and it's powers were described as emanating powerful energy fields rather than being dependant on Dragons, perhaps people would have taken to the class more.

For me, the class flavor just doesn't fit in with my game at all. Taking away all the dragon stuff probably would make it more appealing (although Aura Master is a terrible name. ;) )

I don't think it's the auras that are the flavour problem, but stuff like the breath weapon and wings.
Right. Giving a dragon shaman auras is simply... handwaving. Like "we have to give that class something real cool" and that was the result. It has nothing to do with dragons.

Honestly, I like the geomancer flavor that hong mentioned.

Makes sense given the aura mechanic - you're not targeting speciffic individuals, you're just manifesting ambient fields of supernatural whoopass energy.

Plus it makes a lot more sense than the currently existing PrC of the same name, which basically turns you into some sort of mutant superhero.
