Question on level 1 race/class

I'm entering a level 1 play by post tournament and one of the guys is a huge power gamer with a supposed unbeatable race/class combo. I do not have a ton of experience with most of the books on the allowed list so I’m wondering if anyone has some quick advice on a good level 1 race and class combo. Starting cash is half max and stats are all 18's as a base.

We are allowed to use pretty much any race and class as long as they are level 1. Books allowed include races of stone, Eberron, planar handbooks, aberrations, heroes of battle, psionic’s and all the core books. Pretty much anything legal, Thanks

Yes im in the same tournament as he is.......and one of the palyers has bragged that he can one hit any other PC. At level 1.

Im not worried, as of now there are only 3 realistic choices to his class :

-Some obscure, incredibly broken third party class

-Some obscure, incredibly broken homebrew class

-Some kind of uber rules lawyering, loopholes, etc.

All i know is his character is a Halfling but that's it. Crazy coincidence that we are both in the tourney and i was just reading your thread on your puzzle troubles, thanks for the great laugh when you got turned into a wraith. I know it's not funny when it happens to you but for me i almost choked i laughed so hard..
