Question on melee reach feats

One of my players is taking Stoneblessed for his paragon path, which gives him a +1 to his melee reach. (He is a goliath barbarian/warden hybrid) Does this allow him to now take feats like Vexing Flanker, which requires him to have a reach of 2? He has a greatsword as his weapon.

Vexing Flanker doesn't do that. Are you sure you're talking about the right thing?

Some feats -- e.g., Raging Reach -- don't require that you "have reach" but that you are "using a reach weapon." An ability which increases your melee reach does not make your weapon into a reach weapon, so it wouldn't qualify for those feats.

I think you might be referring to the fighter power and not the feat called vexing flanker. This power refers to adjacent opponents which in strict rules terms is 1 square, but I guess you could rule otherwise that it can be used against anyone in reach.

Thanks - I think that is what the guy was getting at - the difference between having reach & using a reach weapon. Is that in the Rules Compendium?

A reach weapon is a weapon with the reach quality. Reach extends your melee attack range with all powers that have a range of "Melee weapon".

If a power, feat, etc. requires a reach weapon, it requires exactly that. The weapon has nothing whatsoever to do with your own reach.

I don't know for sure, but I don't imagine this is addressed anywhere in particular; it seemed pretty clear to me, but I guess I can understand why someone might get confused about it.
