Actually, Pathfinder seems to treat it as it has enough legs to be immune to tripping.
Question - On Tripping and Cleave

1. yes. Is a melee attack, you csn trip as part of full attack (any of the attacks) or as part of an AOO.
2. The same way, you can trip with either or both attacks of cleave. A CMB check is an attack, so if you are successful with the first attack you can trigger the second.
3. use mixed enemies. Some of them are tippable, some are not, so your player can choose the right strategy with the right enemy and have fun in the learning process.
