Question: Paying for editing

Hi all,

I was wondering if some of you who are more experienced in the publishing business might answer a question for me. Simply, what is a reasonable amount to pay someone for proofreading and editing?

Thanks for any help.

The are several types of editing - proof, copy, developmental, etc...

Assuming that you want a proof reader who helps with grammar, dropped words, and spelling the following rates are my best ball park guess.

I have seen prices quotes several ways so I will mimic them:

Per Word: $0.005 to $0.05 (yeap, that is a big span)
Per Hour: $10.00 to $25.00
Per Page: $2.00 to $20.00

Mostly it depends on what you want done and the credentials of the person you want doing it.

If you want suggestions, I know a few folks who are both "cheap" and good.

Writer's Market 2006

According to the above book, pp72-73, it's a per hour proposition, going from $35 (proof) to $50 (copy) to up to $100 (content).

I'm sure you could glean a smaller, per project price from a non-professional editor. Go find an English teacher that enjoys RPGs! (^_ ^)v
