Question regarding reporting a post

Nonlethal Force

First Post
I have a question about reporting a bad post. I've never done so, and I've never really been tempted to until now. But there is a post in the general forum (thread start) that I really wanted to report. You can probably figure out the one fairly easy.

The problem is the note under the Report Bad Post section:

Board Policy said:
Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

The problem is that this post isn't spam, advertising, harassment, fighting, or rude. The problem is that the post is significantly non-minor friendly. (in my opinion - and I admit that I'm not a mod and thus my opinion doesn't truly matter as far as implementation of the rules go). It is a post that while the point may be legit, the example used is not something I'd want my grandmother to read, nor my kids.

Is it legitimate to report a post that makes this site non-minor friendly through the report a post function? Having never done so ... I didn't want to do something wrong and have a mod get upset at me.

Thanks,

NLF

in what sense is it non-minor friendly? sexual? language?

if it's "rated R" it's probably worth reporting.

In this case your instincts were absolutely correct. We won't get mad at you for reporting a non-problem post, unless there's a pattern of reporting trivial stuff -- but you should definitely report significant problems, even if there is no fighting yet. The (now deleted) thread you are referring to sure fell into that category.

Thanks for the replies. Like I said, I've never really wanted to report a bad post before ...

Hopefully I'll not see another one. But if I do, I'll be better informed. Thanks again, all who replied.

I've reported more than my fair share of threads/posts, and except that one time where I reported PCat's story hour forty-nine times for being spam, I've never been yelled at.

The way I look at it is, even if a thread or a post isn't worth taking action on, reporting it at least brings it to the eyes of the moderators so they can monitor it.

Hmm, you certainly got me curious about the post in question... but it's gone.

Damn.

Sorry, that was not my intention. But it is definately best left forgotten.

On another note - and completely unrelated ...

I don't know if something in the board scripting changed, but suddenly the pull down menu for choosing colors in a post has changed from a short list of about 8 to allowing almost the full list! If this is a change on the boards, I say it is a welcome one! I always prefer longer pulldown menus than shorter pull down menus with a scroll tab.
